Cops seize RM1.2mil in e-waste, nab 25 foreigners during two raids in Selangor

PETALING JAYA: Two simultaneous anti e-waste operations in the state saw the arrest of 25 foreigners.

Wildlife Crime Control Bureau/Special Investigation Intelligence (WCB/PSK) commander Senior Asst Comm Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar, in a statement on Friday (June 22), said that the raids in Selangor were conducted with Kuala Langat police and the Sepang Environment Department on May 21.

"The operation involved two simultaneous raids at two separate locations involving a storage facility and premises conducting electronic waste processing activities," he said.

"The operation successfully detained 24 foreign men and one foreign woman aged between 19 and 50 years old," he said.

The raids also saw the seizure of 347000kg of e-waste alongside other equipment and machines.

It is estimated that the e-waste seized was valued at RM1,256,100.

In a related matter, the WCB/PSK had conducted 158 raids between Jan 1 and May 22.

The operations also led to the arrest of 335 suspects, including for smuggling of both items and animals, as well as for the sale of fake weapons.

"Public cooperation in channeling information to the police is also highly encouraged to ensure that crimes such as these can be completely eradicated," he said.
