Caregiver, 60, nabbed for allegedly abusing four-year-old

SEREMBAN: A 60-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly abusing a four-year-old boy under her care at a house here on Thursday (May 21).

Negri Sembilan OCPD Datuk Alzafny Ahmad confirmed the arrest was made at 9.45pm at the same location to assist in investigations.

He said police received a report at 8.01pm after the victim's parents identified their son through a one-minute and 15-second video that went viral on social media.

"The video footage showed a woman beating a young boy at the rear of a house, and the victim in the recording was identified by his parents.

"Preliminary investigations found that the victim had been sent by his parents to be cared for at a woman's house located not far from their residence about seven months ago," he said in a statement here on Friday.

He said the victim was later taken to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital for further examination and treatment.

Alzafny added that a remand application would be made to enable investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

He urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist investigations by contacting investigating officer Insp Kamarul Ariffin Kamaruzaman at 06-6033222. - Bernama
