Cops bust Setia Alam scam call centre targeting Iraqis

SHAH ALAM: A scam call centre targeting Iraqi nationals has been busted by the police after a raid at a home in Setia Alam.

Selangor police chief Comm Shazeli Kahar, at a press conference today, said the raid was conducted on May 19 and led to the arrest of 14 suspects aged between 19 and 41.

Of the 14, one is a local while the rest are foreigners.

"All the suspects are believed to be involved in a scam syndicate offering part-time jobs targeting Iraqi nationals. Initial investigations found that the syndicate has been operating since Feb 2026," he said.

Investigations showed that all those arrested were believed to have acted as operators offering online part-time jobs.

"The syndicate used WhatsApp, Telegram and several websites to deceive victims," he said.

He added that during the raid, police also seized 20 mobile phones, 12 computer sets, two cars and one WiFi router. The total value of the confiscated items is estimated at RM132,000.

Shazeli said the case was being investigated under Section 420 and Section 120B of the Penal Code.

"All suspects have been remanded until May 23 to assist in further investigations," he said.
