Nancy: We are monitoring the sexual harassment case in Sarawak involving police officer

KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is closely monitoring developments in the alleged sexual harassment case involving a senior police officer and a female subordinate in Sarawak.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, commended the female officer for coming forward to report the case.

“I would like to see how it develops, and I have read the report. I am very interested in this case.

“This is because it involves law enforcement officers who are supposed to uphold the law. It would seem like ‘harapkan pagar, pagar makan padi’ (those assigned to protect end up betraying),” she told reporters after launching the Zero Tolerance for Violence Programme: Say No To Sexual Harassment here on Tuesday (May 19).

On Monday (May 18), Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah confirmed that a district police chief in Sarawak was being investigated over allegations of sexually harassing a female officer.

He said further investigations were underway to verify the report. The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
