Mum who quit job for ailing child seeks help

A SINGLE mother in Melaka is struggling to make ends meet after being forced to quit her job to care for her two-year-old daughter who is bedridden with a brain complication, reported Kosmo!

Nur Asyikin Jaafar, 28, said her daughter Anggun Cempaka has been suffering from hydrocephalus, a condition caused by fluid buildup in the brain.

She said doctors detected Anggun’s condition in the final weeks of her pregnancy, forcing her to undergo an emergency caesarean section.

“Anggun’s head looked normal when she was born, but there was fluid accumulating in her brain and her head circumference increased by about 2cm every month.

“Her head circumference is now 59cm, compared to 61cm previously, after several surgeries,” she told the daily.

Anggun has undergone five surgeries since birth and is bedridden following a ventriculoperitoneal shunt surgery earlier this year.

“Since February 2025, Anggun has only been able to move by turning to her sides. Her right hand cannot function and one of her legs has become shorter.”

Nur Asyikin worked as an insurance clerk. She quit her job last year and said she now survives on occasional clothes-folding jobs, earning between RM50 and RM80 monthly.

> The daily also reported that actress Mawar Rashid has clarified that the unknown man featured in her recent Hari Raya Puasa post on social media was merely a marketing stunt.

Mawar, whose real name is Wan Mawar Shaputri Wan Abdul Rashid, 31, said many people believed she was in a relationship as a result of the post.

“Many still remember the post and have made assumptions because they did not follow the developments posted afterwards,” she added.

The Jangan Pandang Belakang 2 actress said her current focus is her career, business ventures and raising her three children.

“There really is no time to think about other things.”

Mawar was married to businessman Raden Muhammad Rafael in 2017 and had three children before the couple divorced in November 2023.
