Over 100,000 litres of diesel seized in Ulu Tiram smuggling bust

JOHOR BAHRU: Region Two Marine Police Force seized 103,560 litres of diesel believed to have been misappropriated, along with various equipment worth a total of RM1.327mil, during Ops Taring Landai at two premises in Ulu Tiram on Tuesday (May 12).

Its commander, Asst Comm Noor Azman Jamal, said the operation was carried out following a public tip-off, after a team from the Marine Intelligence Unit inspected the premises at around 12.30pm.

He said an initial inspection at one of the premises, conducted together with a 36-year-old local man suspected of being the caretaker, uncovered diesel stored in several tanks.

"A follow-up inspection at the neighbouring premises found a skid tank containing diesel, but the 72-year-old man believed to be the owner of the premises failed to produce valid documents related to ownership of the material,” he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 13).

All seized items were handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. — Bernama
