Free motorcycle licence programme to benefit 60,000 students, says Loke

JOHOR BARU: Some 60,000 students nationwide will receive free motorcycle licences this year under the MyLesen B2 Sekolah (MyB2S) Programme, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

He said the programme, involving an RM18.5 mil allocation, was introduced following concerns over the number of students riding motorcycles to school without valid driving licences.

“This programme was implemented following the government’s concern over the issue of student motorcyclists who still do not possess valid driving licences, especially in rural areas.

“This initiative focuses on providing access to legal licensing while also improving competency, awareness and compliance with road laws among the younger generation,” he said.

He said this after launching the MyB2S programme at the Austin International Convention Centre on Monday (May 11).

Also present was Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

Loke said statistics showed that more than 6,000 fatal road accidents were reported every year, with 65% involving motorcyclists and pillion riders.

He said most of these fatal accidents involved those aged between 16 and 25, including school students.
