Four relatives hospitalised after Machang crash


MACHANG: Four family members, who are students at two schools in Machang, were injured in an accident that occurred here on Monday (May 11).

Machang OCPD Supt Azuhar Md Nor confirmed the 7am accident involving a motorcycle ridden by a student with three pillion riders travelling from Kuala Krai to Machang when it suddenly turned right to enter a junction on the right side of the road.

"The motorcycle collided with the front right side of a hatchback car, which was travelling on the correct lane from Machang to Kuala Krai near Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Intan.

"The car driver and passenger were not injured in the collision, while the motorcyclist and pillion riders, who were students, sustained serious injuries," he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the victims' elder sister, Mas Asmah Rosli, 19, said she learned about the accident involving her two younger siblings after being contacted by their aunt, Saripah Ismail, 48, at about 8.01am.

"I was informed that the accident involved a motorcycle ridden by my siblings and nephews and a car when they were on their way to school at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Pek and SMK Seri Intan, about 6km from home.

"My siblings, Mohd Muskir Rosli, 14, and Mas Siti Rosnani Rosli, 7, are in critical condition after sustaining serious injuries to their thighs. My nephews, Mohd Hakikat Ab Rahman, 9, and Mohd Zulhaqif Mohd Zulkifli, 12, also suffered serious thigh injuries," she said.

Mas Asmah said all of them are currently receiving treatment at Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
