Man found electrocuted on rooftop near Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: A man died from electrocution when allegedly cutting some wires on the roof of a seafood restaurant in Karambunai near here on Saturday (May 9).

The man was found unconscious at around 1pm, and was pronounced dead at around 3.02pm, said acting OCPD Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman.

It remains unclear whether the victim was the restaurant's employee and why he was cutting wires.

“There were some burnt marks on the victim’s fingers,” he said.

Supt Syed Lot said the victim was taken down from the roof with the help of firemen, before the body was sent to the hospital for post-mortem and that the case is being investigated for sudden death.

Earlier, Kota Kinabalu Fire and Rescue station chief Ordine Gilu said they arrived at the scene at around 2.50pm and had used a stretcher to bring the body down.

Health officials on scene pronounced the victim dead on site, and operations ceased at 3.06pm after all hazardous elements had been eliminated, he said.
