Floods: Perak Bomba rescues trapped senior citizen, two others


IPOH: An 80-year-old woman and two others were rescued by the Perak Fire and Rescue Department after their house was flooded in Kampung Lasah, Sungai Siput, Perak.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a distress call regarding the incident was received at 4.13am on Saturday (May 9).

“The flash flood in Kampung Lasah, Sungai Siput was caused by an overflow of Sungai Pelus, with water levels estimated to have reached up to 1m when firefighters arrived at the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found three victims - an 80-year-old woman, a disabled woman aged 55 and a man his 40s - trapped inside the house,” he said in a statement.

He said that other villagers were advised to evacuate should the water level rise further.

Sabarodzi added that firefighters carried out the rescue operation using a rescue boat and a villagers’ boat which was already at the location to evacuate the victims from the house.

“The victims were then moved to the a temporary relief centre at Kampung Lasah community hall with assistance from the village committee.

“Although the water level has started to recede, continuous monitoring will be conducted from time to time,” he added.
