Negri Umno to heed advice of leaders and back state govt

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Umno says they will heed the advice of the Umno-Pakatan Harapan leadership consultative council to support the state unity government but maintained their stand that that they had lost confidence in Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

State Umno secretary Datuk Mustapha Nagoor said this was to ensure political stability and safeguard the welfare of the people.

"Negri Sembilan Umno respects the decision of the leadership to maintain our cooperation in the state unity government as decided by the party's political bureau and the Umno-Pakatan Harapan leadership consultative council.

"All Barisan Nasional and Umno assemblymen will carry out their responsibilities as usual," he said in a statement on Wednesday (May 6).

Mustapha said the 14 Barisan assemblymen had lost confidence in Aminuddin's leadership for failing to manage what he described as "the worst royal crisis ever to have happened in the state."

He said this had affected public confidence in the institutions of adat and the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959.

Mustapha said he hoped the crisis would be resolved amicably and in accordance with the state constitution and adat procedures.

He also urged the public to respect all processes and to refrain from making provocative comments about adat institutions in the state.

On April 27, the 14 assemblymen withdrew support for Aminuddin's government

Four executive council members, Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, Datuk Ismail Lasim, Datuk Mustapha Nagoor and Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli, resigned.

On Tuesday (May 5), Umno and Pakatan Harapan leaders agreed to maintain the unity government framework in the state.
