MACC: More government officials may face scrutiny

PUTRAJAYA: More government officials may come under scrutiny following recent investigations involving two director-generals of government agencies.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the commission continuously monitors and verifies information involving public officers before opening formal investigations.

"We will verify first when persons of interest come to our attention, whether public officials or others," he told a press conference on Wednesday (May 6).

He said the MACC would not investigate individuals based solely on social media allegations or unverified claims.

Azam reiterated the MACC’s warning to civil servants against corruption and abuse of power, saying officers in positions of trust must not engage in corruption or leaks that harm the country.

He added that corruption and abuse of power are closely linked to other criminal activities.
