Driver in Batu Pahat crash that killed eight-year-old remanded for three days


PETALING JAYA: A Magistrate's Court in Batu Pahat, Johor, has granted a three-day remand order against a 60-year-old man to assist investigations into a fatal road accident involving a primary school pupil in Parit Sulong.

Magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman issued the remand order from Wednesday (May 6) until Friday (May 8) after police applied for it to facilitate investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Earlier, the suspect arrived at the court at about 8am, escorted by personnel from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Batu Pahat district police headquarters, before being brought into the courtroom for the remand proceedings.

In the incident at about 12.30pm on Tuesday (May 5), the victim, eight-year-old Nur Aini Humairah, a Year Two pupil of SK Seri Maimon, died after she was hit by a van in front of the school's main gate.

She was laid to rest at the Kampung Parit Mustafa Muslim cemetery in Parit Sulong on Tuesday night.
