Sabah tourism sector stays resilient, Hajiji says

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s tourism sector remains resilient during the Middle East conflict if businesses adapt, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“I am heartened to see strong investor confidence in Sabah's tourism sector,” said Hajiji at the official opening of the Sheraton Kota Kinabalu, here on Monday (May 4).

Hajiji said hotel projects at various stages of completion will add 2,740 rooms to Sabah’s inventory. He said the Sheraton Kota Kinabalu costs more than RM300mil.

“This momentum will now be extended to the end of 2027 and serve as a catalyst for Sabah’s continued preparations for Visit Sabah Year 2027,” said Hajiji.

“Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry are refining strategies to keep Sabah competitive,” he added.

He said the state government expanded airline partnerships, developed tourism products, raised service standards, and hosted events.
