Couple with drugs nabbed after fleeing police

PETALING JAYA: An attempt by a couple to flee a police roadblock turned out to be shortlived.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the incident occurred at about 9.05pm on Friday when a car driven by one of the suspects was spotted attempting to evade a police roadblock near the Subang toll plaza exit heading towards Shah Alam.

“The male suspect drove recklessly before entering the Subang Jaya intersection and crashed into another car at the traffic lights along Persiaran Tujuan, Subang Jaya.

“The suspects were apprehended by the police after a chase,” he said in a statement.

ACP Shamsudin said checks on the vehicle uncovered 17 transparent packets containing substances believed to be drugs, weighing about 16g.

“The male suspect has 21 prior records for criminal and drug- related offences, while the female suspect, a foreigner, has no prior record.

“Preliminary urine screening found the male suspect positive for methamphetamine, while the woman tested negative,” he said.

Both suspects have been remanded for three days.
