PETALING JAYA: The SME Association of Malaysia has expressed strong support for the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry’s Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026, describing the initiative as a timely boost for small and medium enterprises.
Its president Dr Chin Chee Seong said from the perspective of SMEs, large-scale, vibrant and internationally appealing events such as the festival go beyond being mere festive celebrations.
“They serve as important economic drivers, particularly at a time when businesses are facing slower growth, rising costs and an increasingly uncertain operating environment,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The three-day festival, featuring live music, food and cultural performances, is part of Visit Malaysia 2026’s long weekend activation.
Bukit Bintang, as one of Malaysia’s key tourism hubs, provides an ideal platform to showcase the nation’s diversity, creativity and hospitality, said Chin.
“Events of this nature contribute to increased footfall, higher tourist spending, and the creation of immediate business opportunities for SMEs across sectors including retail, food and beverage, hospitality, transportation and services,” he added.
Chin said higher visitor traffic translates into more sales, improved cash flow and better business sentiment, factors that are critically needed to navigate cost pressures, demand volatility and global economic headwinds.
“Beyond the economic impact, the Water Festival also plays a meaningful role in promoting Malaysia’s cultural richness, inclusiveness and social cohesion.
“As a nation that embraces diversity, Malaysia benefits from events that bring together people from different backgrounds, including both locals and international visitors, thereby fostering mutual understanding and reinforcing national identity,” he said.
“The Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 reflects a forward-looking approach where culture, tourism, and economic development intersect, delivering meaningful benefits to both businesses and wider society.”
