Family shocked by daughter’s 61-stab murder

KOTA BARU: A week ago, the family of Nurfisya Zulkipli had travelled to Kelantan to send her off as she began her third semester at a college here.

This time, the family had to make the heartbreaking trip of bringing home the remains of the 19-year-old, who was fatally stabbed 61 times.

The victim’s brother, Mohd Faris Zulkifly, said the family had travelled from their home in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, last Saturday to send his sister off.

“We received a call from the police at 12.30pm informing us that she had passed away, but we could not bear to hear further details at that moment and ended the call,” he told reporters when met at the forensic unit of Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II.

The family learned of Nurfisya’s gruesome death after reading news reports while passing through Jeli.

“My parents were in shock and could not stop crying upon learning what had actually happened.

“My sister did not show any unusual behaviour before the incident, but during her recent visit home, she expressed a desire to savour various favourite food, including ayam penyet,” he said, Bernama reported.

A pall of grief hung over the family’s home in Kampung Batu Jarau as Nurfisya was laid to rest at the Kampung Periang Muslim Cemetery at 5.30am yesterday.

On Friday, police were alerted by members of the public to the discovery of a woman’s body on a road near a padi field in Kampung Simah, Ketereh, Kelantan.

She is believed to have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped there.

Based on the post-mortem, the cause of death was multiple stab wounds to the victim’s chest.

Swift action by police resulted in the arrest of three men and a woman, aged between 19 and 66.

Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the suspects were arrested in two separate police raids.

“The suspects do not have criminal records and tested negative for drugs,” he said.

A knife believed to be the murder weapon, along with two cars, two mobile phones, a set of clothing and a pair of slippers were seized.

Two of the male suspects, both aged 19, were remanded for seven days, while a 66-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman were remanded for three days.
