SEREMBAN: The state government’s decision to order the Undang of Sungei Ujong, Datuk Mubarak Dohak, to vacate his official residence has again reflected Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun’s failure to handle the Negri Sembilan royal crisis, Umno alleges.

State Umno youth, wanita and puteri wings said this was why the 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen from the party had declared a loss of confidence in the Mentri Besar’s leadership.

“This only shows the failure of the Mentri Besar to manage a crisis and the people’s perception on our institutions,” they said in a joint statement.

The wings said they also viewed seriously the decision to reassign civil servants previously working at Balai Undang Sungei Ujong.

They said this should not have been done when Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong was in the midst of resolving a dispute involving Mubarak.

“The state government’s directive was highly inappropriate, insensitive and an attempt to use administrative power ahead of the process of adat (customary laws and traditions),” they alleged.

The wings pointed out that the Luak Undang institution is not a normal administrative position.

“It is a part of the state adat structure which occupies an elevated and special position in the history, culture and the Laws of the Constitution of Negri Sembilan 1959, and which should be respected,” they said.

Any administrative actions or decisions regarding the Undang’s official residence, balai, personnel and provided facilities must be executed with strict adherence to order, decorum and professional wisdom, the statement added.

The state government had in a letter dated April 29 ordered Mubarak to vacate the official residence and Balai Undang Sungai Ujong with immediate effect.

The letter stated that the order to vacate the premises was in line with a meeting of Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) on April 17.

Following this, Mubarak’s office formally sought an explanation and the official meeting minutes from the DKU special session which had apparently led to his removal.

His office also claimed that he was removed without following proper procedures, documentation and questioned if it was a unanimously supported decision.

The DKU is the highest authority governing the four Undang or chieftains of Negri Sembilan.
