SANDAKAN: Another fire has struck Sandakan in less than two weeks, destroying 30 houses in Kampung PPH Karamunting, Batu Sapi, early Wednesday (April 29).
The blaze, which broke out at Jalan Bokara in the settlement, was reported at 3.16am, with firefighters arriving at 3.34am.
According to the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department’s report, the fire involved non-permanent wooden houses spread across an estimated 1.41ha (3.5 acres), all of which were razed.
No casualties or injuries were reported.
A total of 21 firefighters from the Sandakan station were deployed, led by operations commander Rosemedian Majid, with senior officer Jimmy Lagung overseeing the operation.

Firefighters used three hose lines spanning 152.4m (500ft) with five nozzles, drawing water from fire engines, a tanker and a nearby hydrant to contain the blaze.
The fire was brought under control at 4.29am and the operation ended at 7.01am after crews ensured the area was safe.
Authorities said about 100 nearby houses were saved from the fire.
Personnel from several agencies, including the police, Civil Defence Force, Rela and the Royal Malaysian Navy assisted at the scene.
Just 10 days ago on April 19, a massive fire in Kampung Bahagia, about 5km from Kg PPH Karamunting, destroyed about 1,000 homes and displaced thousands of residents.
