Global energy crisis: Political stability crucial to address economic challenges, says Johari

KUALA LUMPUR: Political stability must be prioritised to address current economic challenges amid the ongoing global oil crisis, says Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said that political stability is the most fundamental requirement in any economy, describing it as the most important ingredient for a country's growth.

"Well, if you ask me personally, this is the most important ingredient.

"If you want to grow the economy or solve economic problems, lacking political stability will make it difficult to overcome the challenges ahead of us," he said at a Concorde Club dialogue session at Wisma Bernama here on Tuesday (April 28).

Johari said that the real focus should be on managing the economy and looking after the people.

"We must recognise our significant financial limitations; we are still running a deficit," he said, adding that the government must allocate a substantial amount of funds for subsidies.

"That is the real reason we need political stability in the country

"For now we need this very much," he said.

The session, chaired by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, discussed the topic of "War and Tariffs: Our Response".
