KOTA KINABALU: Parents must actively educate their children on the legal dangers of becoming bank account mules, warned Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic).
Speaking at the launch of the Digital Parentage program on Saturday (Aug 29), Ewon cautioned that allowing third parties access to personal bank accounts for money transfers exposes account holders to criminal prosecution if linked to scams or illicit transactions.
"Technology can change how the community operates—from financial transactions to applying for government aid—but with these advancements come significant risks," said the Penampang MP, stressing that while digital tools like QR payments and online banking are now essential, proper knowledge is vital to avoid falling victim to exploitation.
He urged parents to play an active role in ensuring digital technology is used safely and responsibly by continuously warning youth against giving up bank access for easy monetary gains.
