Melor rep to give statement over viral video allegedly insulting cops

KOTA BARU: Melor assemblyman Wan Rohimi Wan Daud will be present at the Kota Baru district police headquarters on Monday (April 27) afternoon to give a statement over allegations that he made remarks insulting police personnel during a roadblock, Sinar Harian reports.

Wan Rohimi told the Malay language daily that he had been called in and was scheduled to give his statement at about 5pm.

Previously, Sinar Harian reported that a man alleged to have made statements mocking and belittling police officers while they were conducting a roadblock could face legal action after police opened an investigation paper into the viral video.

Kelantan police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said a report was received at about 10am on Sunday (April 26), lodged by a senior police officer, regarding the video uploaded on social media.

He said the video showed a male individual making insulting remarks about police officers on duty and claiming he managed to get past several roadblocks by deceiving the officers.

“The statement was irresponsible, provocative, and could create negative public perceptions, as well as undermine the image, reputation and credibility of the Royal Malaysia Police,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Following that, he said police opened an investigation under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

Comm Mohd Yusoff stressed that legal action will be taken without compromise against any individual who attempts to belittle the duties of the security forces or spread content that could disrupt public order.
