KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Ethnic Day has the potential to become one of the state’s key tourist attractions while showcasing its rich cultural diversity to the world, says Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.
The Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister said the event could serve as a unifying platform to promote Sabah’s unique cultures globally.
He added that the programme, held on Saturday (April 25) in conjunction with the 75th official birthday celebrations of Sabah Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, also helps strengthen ties between the royal institution and local communities.
Nizam said a total of 35 ethnic groups took part in the event, parading in traditional attire and offering both locals and foreign visitors a glimpse into Sabah’s diverse cultural heritage.

He noted that the participation of 182 ethnic associations highlighted the strength of Sabah’s diversity, describing it as a key asset in tourism promotion.
“Through this programme, we continue to demonstrate how Sabah remains a model of unity in diversity,” he said, adding that this heritage must be preserved for future generations.
On another note, Nizam said such events complement efforts to promote Visit Malaysia Year as well as Visit Sabah Year 2027.
The celebration featured ethnic and cultural parades from downtown Deasoka to the Sabah International Convention Centre, alongside dance and cultural performances that captivated visitors.
