KOTA KINABALU: A 63-year-old was jailed seven years for exposing his genitals to a toddler.
Abdul Wahid Abd Salam pleaded guilty before Sessions Court judge Rolinda Razali to the charge under Section 15(a)(i) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which criminalises non-physical sexual assault against minors.
He was accused of exposing himself to a 31-month-old girl at an unnumbered house in Kampung Settinggan Mangkalinau, Sandakan, at 10.30am on April 18.
In another case, a lorry assistant has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and 12 strokes of the rotan by the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court for raping his younger sister.The accused, 24, pleaded guilty to the charge. The court heard the victim, now aged 19, had endured the sex abuse since the age of 12.
The specific charge detailed an incident in December 2021 at a workers’ quarters in Putatan, when the victim was 15 years old.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Fazriel Fardiansyah Abdul Kadir noted the victim lodged a police report last year, exposing the years of abuse.
Judge Zaini Fishir Fisal meted out the sentence following the man’s guilty plea.
