MALAYSIA will be the host nation for the 16th World Tamil Teachers Conference from Dec 3 to 5, Malaysia Nanban reported.

This is the fourth time the global event will be hosted here. The previous editions took place in 1994, 2006 and 2012.

Delegates from India, Sri Lanka, and Canada are expected to attend the conference, said organising committee deputy chair and Tamil School Teachers Association president Arjunan Murugiah.

The Tamil diaspora in these countries, including Malaysia, have maintained a strong Tamil cultural identity and showed good support for such an event, he said.

This year’s conference is a collaborative effort between local organisations such as the Tamil School Headmasters Association and the National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP).

NUTP’s Tamil affairs chief Eeswaran Selvadurai said that Tamil education in Malaysia is supported by many people and the event’s success would reflect this.
