SEREMBAN: The three-day meeting of the Negri Sembilan legislative assembly scheduled to start on Monday has been postponed.
State Speaker Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman said the new dates would be fixed after the state Ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir gives his consent.
“We will fix another date and send out notices later. So next week’s meeting will not be held,” he said when met outside the state assembly hall after its official opening by Tuanku Muhriz.
Asked about the reason for the postponement, MK Ibrahim said it was to ensure the smooth conduct of the three-day proceedings.
“It is my hope that we are able to overcome the situation we are facing now before the assembly meets again,” he said.
Although MK Ibrahim did not elaborate, he was believed to be referring to the current state’s royalty crisis.
The four Undang and Tunku Besar Tampin did not attend the official opening of the assembly.
MK Ibrahim said their absence had no effect on the official opening of the assembly.
“Proceedings could continue as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar was here to officially open the assembly and deliver his royal address,” he said.
“So, it met the conditions. If it did not, then we could not have postponed it.”
