Ministry to review publication ban orders


PUTRAJAYA: The Home Ministry will hold discussions with publishers before any action is taken against their publications.

It said this was decided after a meeting between the ministry and members of the Malaysian Book Publishers Association on Tuesday (April 21) to discuss issues and developments in the country's publishing industry.

"At the same time, the ministry will also review and reassess the Prohibition Order on publications that have been gazetted, taking into account the views and suggestions put forward by stakeholders," it said in a statement on Friday (April 24).

However, the ministry stressed that every publication must comply with legal provisions and not contain elements that could jeopardise the safety, harmony and well-being of the public.

It urged all parties to give the ministry space to manage publication-related matters. – Bernama
