Johor-born Fish Liew wins Best Actress at Hong Kong Film Awards

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian actress Fish Liew has been named Best Actress at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards.

She was recognised for her role as Ah Mui, a woman with cerebral palsy, in the film “Someone Like Me”.

The 36-year-old from Johor received the accolade in competition with stars Zhang Ziyi, Ma Li, Fala Chen and Natalie Hsu for the title at the award-presenting ceremony on Sunday (April 19) night.

In January, she was crowned the Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

"I thought I could stay calm, but I couldn't. I'm very happy," she told a press conference shortly after receiving the trophy at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

She also acknowledged the plight of patients suffering from cerebral palsy, whom she had met in her research for the role.

"They have contributed a lot by sharing their stories," she said.
