MATTA supports crackdown on illegal tour operators

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) supports the enforcement action taken against illegal tourism activities in Sabah.

The Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry carried out an integrated operation in Sabah in collaboration with the police, the Inland Revenue Board, and the Eastern Sabah Security Command.

In a statement on Friday (April 17), MATTA also said it supported imposing maximum penalties on offenders under the Tourism Industry Act 1992.

President of MATTA, Nigel Wong, said, “This is not limited to companies alone. Individuals who are operating illegally, including those marketing or selling tourism services online, must also be held accountable under the law.”

MATTA encouraged its members to engage only with properly licensed operators
