AWS investment positions Malaysia as Southeast Asia's digital hub

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s position as a regional digital hub has been strengthened following a strategic investment by Amazon Web Services (AWS), says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the government recently received a courtesy visit from AWS vice-president of public policy Michael Punke and his delegation, marking one year since the launch of AWS’s regional presence in Malaysia.

“The discussions focused on the progress of AWS investment and its impact on the country’s economy, especially in accelerating the digital transformation agenda, the use of cloud in the Madani Government, the development of local talent and commitment to sustainability,” he said in a social media post.

He added that AWS highlighted Malaysia’s strong infrastructure and efficient supply chain as key factors contributing to the success of its investment in the country.

“I emphasise that AWS should continue to expand the abundance of opportunities for local companies to engage more meaningfully in their global ecosystems.

“The government will continue to strengthen existing policies to ensure the long-term benefits of these strategic investments, alongside encouraging broader cooperation between local suppliers with the data centre and cloud technology ecosystems,” he said.
