Malaysia-China synergy to boost future growth

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and China must deepen strategic cooperation and ensure that long-term development plans translate into meaningful opportunities for the next generation, says Mordi Bimol.

The Deputy Youth and Sports Minister said the world was undergoing profound transformation driven by economic uncertainty, rapid technological change and shifting geopolitical dynamics.

He said the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) reflected a strong commitment to economic transformation, accelerated digitalisation, sustainable development and inclusive growth.

“The future does not simply arrive. It is shaped by those who prepare for it and take action,” he said during the appreciation dinner and media exchange hosted by the Malaysia Friends of Silk Road Club, Malaysia-China Friendship Association (PPMC) and The Belt and Road Relationship Promotion Association of Malaysia and China on Tuesday.

The event brought together government representatives, diplomats and business leaders to discuss the alignment of 13MP with China’s upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan.

Mordi said Malaysia must remain open, adaptive and forward-looking while strengthening its resilience and competitiveness in the region, adding that engagement with international partners, particularly China, had become increasingly important.

Chinese Embassy in Malaysia charge d’ affaires Zheng Xuefang said China’s 15th Five-Year Plan would provide a new blueprint for high-quality development and deeper international cooperation.

He said China remained committed to multilateralism and global economic stability, noting that the nation continued to contribute significantly to world growth.

“Both countries should strengthen cooperation in the digital, tourism, green and blue economies while advancing major Belt and Road Initiative projects including the East Coast Rail Link and the second 5G network.

“Our media friends are history recorders and friendship contributors,” he said, urging continued efforts to tell the story of Malaysia-China cooperation.

PPMC president Datuk Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan said the strategic frameworks adopted by both countries were more than policy directions.

He described them as bold commitments towards higher levels of development, shared prosperity and stronger roles in shaping the global landscape.

Abdul Majid said Malaysian entrepreneurs should seize opportunities arising from China’s expanding market access, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and major trade platforms such as the China International Import Expo in Shanghai.
