Eight homeless nabbed in Ipoh following joint operation

IPOH: A joint operation between the Ipoh City Council and several agencies saw eight homeless people nabbed in the city centre.

A city council spokesman said the eight individuals were picked up near Hotel Lotte, Jalan Dato Onn Jaafar and Jalan Foo Yet Kai, on Tuesday (April 14).

The spokesman said of the eight individuals, one has been subjected to further actions by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK).

"The rest were handed over to the welfare department for further action and appropriate welfare intervention.

“The approach not only aimed at managing the situation but also ensuring that affected areas are thoroughly cleaned and that those in need receive assistance based on current circumstances.

“The implementation of this operation reflects a proactive and integrated effort in addressing the presence of homeless individuals in public areas, while ensuring the city remains clean, orderly and safe for the community.

“Beyond enforcement and cleaning, the operation also emphasises the welfare of the homeless through more comprehensive and humane social intervention,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman said such efforts would continue from time to time to ensure public spaces remain conducive, clean and safe.

“The city council remains committed to strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies in addressing social issues in a holistic, prudent and effective manner for the well-being of Ipoh residents.

“The public is also urged to cooperate and provide information to the authorities if further action is needed regarding homelessness issues in the city,” the spokesman said.
