Johor continues year-on-year decline in dengue cases


JOHOR BARU: Johor continues to record a decline in dengue fever incidence with 1,494 cumulative cases up to the 14th epidemiological week (ME14) this year.

State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said this was a significant drop from 1,706 cases in ME14 last year.

"Of this year's figures, 507 (33.9%) were epidemic locality cases, while 988 (66.1%) were non-locality cases," he said in a statement on Monday (April 13).

He said there were no fatalities from ME14 cases, with two deaths so far this year compared with three by this point last year.

Ling said Johor Baru district has the highest number of cases in ME14 with 105 (71.9%), Kulai with 18 (12.3%), and Kluang, eight (5.5%).

He said Batu Pahat has seven cases (4.8%), Kota Tinggi four (2.7%), Muar three (2.1%), Segamat two (1.4%) and Pontian, one case (0.7%).

"There were no cases registered in Tangkak and Mersing in ME14," he added.

He said Johor Baru has seven dengue hotspots namely Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.

Ling said there were four hotspots in Kulai – Bukit Batu, Kulai, Sedenak and Senai.

He said the eight hotspots in Kluang were Kahang, Kluang, Layang-Layang, Machap, Nyior, Paloh, Rengam and Ulu Benut.
