Invest in Perak, MB told East Asia investors amid West Asia conflict

IPOH: Investors from East Asia are called to invest in Perak amid the ongoing West Asia conflict, says Perak Mentri Besar Saarani Mohamad.

He said the situation presents an opportunity to attract investors from the East Asian region to Malaysia, particularly Perak.

“When conflicts occur in West Asia, there are many investors based in East Asia, so why not invite them to invest in Perak?

“Why not encourage investors from Korea, Japan and China to come to Malaysia, especially Perak, where they do not need to pass through the Strait of Hormuz?

“When the South Korean ambassador visited a few days ago, we spoke about the same issue," He told reporters after officiating the closure of the Perak Malay Chambers of Commerce annual general meeting (AGM) and Hari Raya Celebrations on Saturday (April 11).

He said local business players must be aware of global developments, be alert, and be ready to adapt to new opportunities.

“This is an opportunity for us to explore more suitable and safer business sectors or to attract investors from countries that are closer to us,” he said.

Saarani added that challenges such as global conflicts can spur creativity and innovation.

“The digital economy began to grow during Covid-19. When people could not operate as usual, even nasi lemak sellers continued their businesses using WhatsApp.

“People became more creative by doing business online through platforms like Shopee after facing such challenges. This mindset should be instilled,” he said.
