Cops probe another cable theft incident in Ipoh


IPOH: The police are investigating yet another cable theft here, following a video of the alleged incident that has gone viral on Friday (April 10).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident is believed to have occurred on Jalan Medan Ipoh 6, in Taman Ipoh Timur.

"We received a report about the incident on Friday, the same day a video of the incident was uploaded on Threads at about 3pm.

"In the video, it showed several individuals, believed to be trying to steal cables," he said in a statement.

"The matter is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

"Those with information about the incident should come forward to the nearest police station or call 05-245 1500 to help with the investigation," he added.

A spate of cable thefts has occurred here in the last few months.

On March 28, a video showed suspects using two vehicles to rip cables out from a residential area in Taman Pakatan Jaya.

On March 13, a similar incident occurred on Jalan Tambun, as a white-coloured four-wheel-drive vehicle was used by a suspect to open a manhole cover. Realising he was being recorded, the suspect fled.

On March 17, another incident caught on video occurred at Jalan Medan Istana where a suspect opened a manhole cover and stole the cables.

On March 16, three men were electrocuted to death while trying to steal electric cables at Taman Rapat Perdana.
