AS the nation steers toward a greener future, the transition to electric mobility is no longer a one-size-fits-all transition.

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) is championing this shift through its Beyond Zero vision and Multi-Pathway strategy, ensuring that carbon neutrality is achieved without compromising the diverse ways Malaysians move every day.

The automaker is empowering Malaysians to choose “Your Path, Your Way” toward sustainability with its latest expansion of battery electric vehicles (BEVs).

These newly released BEVs – the bZ4X, Hilux BEV and Urban Cruiser – provide tailored choices for road users that fulfil both national sustainability goals and individual lifestyle demands.

The Malaysian reality

Malaysia’s automotive industry has grown into a highly integrated ecosystem connecting manufacturers, suppliers and engineers across the country.

For decades, collaboration between the government and manufacturers has created a landscape where mobility carries deep economic and social implications.

UMWT president Datuk Ravindran K. said that electrified mobility must be introduced in ways that benefit Malaysians and support how people and industries move every day.

He added that Toyota’s electrification strategy recognises that the transition toward lower-emissions mobility must reflect how vehicles are used across different markets.

This philosophy of choice ensures that every driver can find a sustainable solution that fits their needs and preferences.

“Vehicles here support far more than urban commuting. They connect communities across long distances and support industries that rely on dependable transport as an essential tool of productivity,” he said.

Long-distance versatility

Leading the charge is the Toyota bZ4X, a dedicated electric SUV which was developed under the brand’s Beyond Zero philosophy and built on a BEV-specific architecture.

Priced from RM220,000, the vehicle addresses the primary needs of Malaysian families and long-distance travellers who require reliability beyond city limits.

The bZ4X is engineered to deliver enhanced BEV performance, supported by improved power efficiency and battery capacity that enables drivers to handle interstate travel with ease.

It features a significantly extended cruising range of up to 525km, allowing for seamless travel across the peninsula while maintaining everyday usability.

Additionally, the vehicle integrates a newly developed eAxle system that optimises power delivery and an advanced battery temperature management system, designed specifically to shorten direct current (DC) charging times.

The interior experience is centred around a 14-inch multimedia display featuring enhanced voice recognition for safer, hands-free control.

Together, these technologies combine with a spacious cabin and refined electric driving experience to deliver the quiet, smooth and intuitive performance that is expected of a next-generation electric SUV.

Electrifying productivity

Toyota is also bringing electrification to its most legendary workhorse, the Hilux – now available in a BEV variant from RM226,300.

While driving range is a common discussion point for EVs, the Hilux BEV excels in industrial applications.

For commercial fleets and industrial users, it offers a practical solution where vehicles follow fixed routes and predictable driving schedules, making charging cycles easier to manage and integrate into daily operations.

Despite the shift to electrical power, the Hilux BEV maintains its rugged reputation. Built on a “Tough and Agile” design concept, it features multi-terrain select (MTS) and multi-terrain monitor (MTM) features to maintain its renowned off-road capability.

This concept also means that the electrified Hilux is engineered for heavy-duty utility with a 750kg payload capacity and a robust 2,000kg towing capacity.

For those operating in flood-prone areas or rugged terrain, it also boasts a 700mm water wading depth, alleviating concerns about the safety and integrity of the battery system during heavy monsoon rains or flash floods.

Moreover, the model also supports modern fleet needs through the Toyota Remote app, allowing users like business owners and fleet managers to stay connected to their vehicles to seamlessly monitor vehicle status and ensure optimal performance at all times.

The pickup even comes equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3 driver assistance technologies, ensuring that industrial productivity never comes at the cost of safety.

City agility

Completing the lineup is the Urban Cruiser, a compact SUV designed for the pulse of modern city life, priced from RM198,000.

Developed under Toyota’s Urban Tech design concept, the Urban Cruiser is tailored for the modern urbanite who navigates through bustling city streets.

Despite its compact footprint, the cabin combines SUV styling with practical interior space suited for city environments.

Additional design highlights include a unique two-spoke squircle-shaped steering wheel, 18-inch wheels and an optional panoramic roof, creating a modern environment for the daily urban commute.

Sustainable choices

The introduction of these three BEVs represents the next step in UMWT’s long-standing electrification journey.

This expanded portfolio reflects its “Move Your World” philosophy by developing mobility solutions that remain practical, accessible and aligned with the country’s broader needs.

By providing a variety of BEV options, the automaker empowers Malaysians to choose the path to sustainability that best fits their unique journey, backed by a trusted nationwide support network.

Through its Best in Town commitment, UMWT continues to strengthen the ownership experience for customers through reliable vehicles, trusted aftersales support and a nationwide network that keeps Malaysians moving with confidence.
