Wisma Putra: A crucial step towards lasting peace

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Ministry has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

In a statement on Facebook, it said this significant development serves as a crucial step towards de-escalating tensions and restoring much needed peace and stability across the Middle East.

“Malaysia urges all parties to fully respect and implement all terms of the ceasefire in good faith to prevent any return to hostilities.

“All parties should avoid any provocative actions or unilateral measures that could negatively impact the fragile stability of the region or jeopardise global economic and energy security,” said the ministry.

It added that Malaysia is also very appreciative of efforts of all parties involved in the diplomacy and mediation that led to the agreement.

“This breakthrough demonstrates that diplomacy remains the only viable path to resolving longstanding conflicts and ensuring long term regional security,” read the statement that also implored stakeholders to use this window of opportunity to continue dialogue towards a durable, comprehensive and peaceful settlement.

“Malaysia calls upon the international community to support these peace efforts and contribute towards a just and lasting resolution that ensures the safety and well-being of all the peoples in the region.”
