Fahmi: Cabinet will extend assistance to Dr Ling’s family

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has unanimously agreed to extend assistance to the family of the late Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in recognition of his immense contributions to the nation, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Speaking after the weekly Cabinet meeting, the Communications Minister said the government wished to honour the legacy of the former transport minister and former MCA president, who passed away recently.

He said the Cabinet had formally recorded its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

“The Cabinet today has unanimously and generally recorded our condolences to the family of the late Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik.

“The Cabinet has also reviewed some assistance to be provided to the family as a mark of respect following his passing,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Describing the late statesman as one of the country’s most dedicated public servants, Fahmi highlighted Dr Ling’s significant tenure in the Cabinet, which spanned nearly two decades.

“Dr Ling was a former transport minister who served for 17 years. He was among the longest-serving transport ministers and contributed extensively to the country,” he added.

While the specific details of the assistance provided to the family were not disclosed, Fahmi said the gesture is intended to acknowledge Dr Ling’s long-standing service to the government and his role in shaping the nation’s transport infrastructure during his time in office.
