JOHOR BARU: DAP should fix its issues in Selangor and explain its broken promise on the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) before hitting out at MCA, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president was responding to DAP strategic director Liew Chin Tong, who asked the Barisan Nasional component party if it would back Perikatan Nasional if the next general election results in a hung Parliament, as in 2022.
"DAP is now backing Umno and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) after decades of calling them corrupt, incompetent and oppressive.
"DAP even publicly apologised to GPS, which they had claimed was robbing the state’s riches while keeping the people dirt poor," Dr Wee said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (May 26).
He labelled Liew’s statement as "cheap propaganda and fear-mongering" among non-Muslim voters before the looming Johor election, which has been speculated to take place in the coming months.
"MCA is firmly with Johor Barisan.
"Go fix your Selangor issues and explain your broken UEC promise first," he said.
Earlier, Liew said Dr Wee has to make it clear to the voters whether he will support the now PAS-dominated Perikatan in forming the government should the political situation of 2022 recur.
He added that if the next general election, be it this year or next, once again sees a three-cornered fight involving Pakatan, Barisan and Perikatan, it was possible that no single coalition secures a simple majority.
The 15th General Election in 2022 resulted in a hung parliament, with no coalition achieving the simple majority of 112 parliamentary seats to form a government on its own.
