Man seriously hurt after being stabbed in Sibu


SIBU: A 56-year-old local man was seriously injured after he was allegedly stabbed with a knife by an unidentified individual on the pavement along Jalan Bengkel on early Monday (April 6).

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Azari Miskon, said the victim sustained serious injuries to his neck and right hand.

“The victim was taken to a private medical specialist centre for further treatment,” he said in a statement.

Acting on information received, police arrested a 58-year-old local man suspected of being involved in the incident.

A knife believed to have been used in the attack was also seized.

The suspect has been remanded for six days until April 12 to assist with investigations. The motive behind the incident remains under investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, as well as a possible fine and whipping upon conviction.

ACP Azari advised members of the public not to speculate on the case so as not to interfere with ongoing investigations.
