Ipoh council demolishes four boom gates installed at road reserves

IPOH: The Ipoh City Council (MBI) has carried out a demolition operation targeting unauthorised structures in its phase one enforcement exercise involving four locations where boom gates had been erected on road reserves.

Datuk Bandar Zamakhshari Hanipah said the barriers were reportedly installed to control access into residential areas under the council’s jurisdiction.

He said the operation was conducted in accordance with the standard operating procedure, following the issuance of demolition notices under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).

“A 30-day compliance period was given to the parties involved prior to enforcement action.

“Extensions may be considered on a case-by-case basis,” he said in a statement Tuesday (Apr 7).

Zamakhshari said the operation involved about 80 personnel and was carried out with the cooperation of several agencies, including the police, and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

The enforcement exercise began at 9am and concluded at around 11am.
