DAP CEC backs govt’s strategy to tackle global crisis

KUALA LUMPUR: The DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) has backed the government’s efforts to manage the global crisis comprehensively, saying this is crucial to protect Malaysia’s economic resilience, public welfare and national resources.

In a statement on Monday (April 6), DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the party was briefed on the latest developments in the Middle East conflict and its impact on the global energy market, including the risk of oil supply disruptions to Malaysia after May.

“The CEC supports the government’s ongoing efforts to address the global crisis in a comprehensive manner to ensure economic stability and protect the welfare of the people,” he said.

Loke said DAP leaders and elected representatives have been instructed to intensify grassroots engagement to raise public awareness about the seriousness of the energy crisis, encouraging prudent energy use and reduced vehicle dependence to help curb fuel demand.

He added that the CEC also discussed other key issues, including the need to speed up refinements to the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill on the separation of powers involving the Attorney General. Party representatives on the relevant Parliamentary Select Committee have been directed to ensure the amendments are finalised and tabled at the June parliamentary sitting.

On education, Loke reiterated DAP’s call for the government to continue granting automatic matriculation places to high-achieving SPM 2025 candidates who obtain 10As and above, while also considering other outstanding students subject to available capacity.

He said the CEC further supported strict enforcement against motorists driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, particularly in fatal cases, to underline the importance of responsibility and road safety among all road users.
