Bootlegging attempt leads to jail

A THIRSTY trio’s attempt to bypass Tamil Nadu’s dry day ended in a police raid after their DIY brewing project was discovered, Makkal Osai reported.

Acting on a tip-off, Coimbatore police swooped on a local plantation Officers seized 20 litres of illicit samsu (moonshine), fermentation barrels and raw materials and distillation equipment.

All three men remain in custody while investigations continue.

Some 7,422 students took the Tamil language subject in 2025, with the overall passing rate rising to 96.9% from last year.

Meanwhile, the proportion of students scoring A+, A, and A– increased to 34.7% from 29.6%.

In Tamil Literature, 2,253 students sat for the subject, with the passing rate reaching 93.8%.
