KOTA KINABALU: Tuaran Umno chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan has resigned from his post with immediate effect, Sinar Harian reported.
However, it is understood that the former Kota Belud MP will continue to serve as a member of Umno's supreme council.
In a statement on Saturday (April 4), Abdul Rahman said the decision was relayed to the party's top leadership, including Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The former Sabah Umno deputy chief said his resignation was based on personal considerations and not related to any issues within the party.
"This decision was made after taking into account various factors, including the political direction and my role going forward," he said.
Abdul Rahman last contested the Kota Belud parliamentary seat under the Barisan Nasional banner in the 15th General Election but was defeated by Warisan candidate Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.
In the recent Sabah Election, he was nominated for the Tempasuk state seat but decided to withdraw from the contest.
