Wildlife and customs offences uncovered


KOTA KINABALU: Wildlife, business, employment and customs offences were among those recorded during an integrated operation conducted in Semporna district.

In the raid led by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), officials also reported the seizure of compounds and the recovery of items worth over RM680,250, and the issuance of 165 notices.

Esscom commander Datuk Victor Sanjos said the operation was to ensure all tourism and business activities were carried out legally for the safety and image of the tourism sector in Semporna.

“We also focused on immigration, business, employment, customs and protected wildlife-related offences,” he said in a statement.

He said a total of 40 resorts and business premises in town, on the water, squatter areas and villages were inspected.

“From Immigration Depart­ment inspections, a total of 28 illegal immigrants were found and detained,” said Sanjos, adding that 269 officials and personnel from the police, armed forces and maritime were involved in these raids.
