Cable thieves nabbed after car chase in Bercham

IPOH: Police have arrested two suspected cable thieves after a car chase in Bercham.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the duo, one a teenager and the other in his 30s, had tried to flee from a police vehicle after ignoring an instruction to stop by the roadside at about 2.30am on Friday (April 3).

"One suspect also drove dangerously, crashing into a post by the side of the road during the chase.

"The suspects' car was finally intercepted with the help of a few patrol vehicles," he said in a statement.

ACP Najib said checks of the car found various items, including drugs believed to be methamphetamine and equipment believed to have been used to steal cables.

"The two men have been remanded to facilitate investigations.

"Those with information about criminal activities are urged to channel it to the police," he said.
