Johor sees 21% drop in cumulative dengue cases from last year as of March 28


JOHOR BARU: The number of cumulative dengue cases in Johor declined to 1,216 cases up to epidemiological week 12 (ME12), March 22 to 28, from the same period last year.

State health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said this was a 21.1% drop from the 1,542 in ME12 last year.

"From the 1,216 cases, 417 were epidemic locality cases while 799 were non-locality epidemics," he said in a statement on Monday (March 30).

Ling said Johor Baru district had the highest number of cases in ME12 with 72 (73.5%), Kulai and Batu Pahat had nine cases each (9.2%), and Kluang and Muar, three cases each (3.1%).

He said Pontian and Segamat had one case each (1.0%), while there were no cases recorded in Kota Tinggi, Mersing and Tangkak.

"There were no deaths from dengue reported in ME12. The cumulative deaths so far this year are two, against three as of ME12 last year," he added.

He said seven dengue hotspots identified in Johor Baru district were Bandar, Jelutong, Plentong, Pulai, Sungai Tiram, Tebrau and Tanjung Kupang in Gelang Patah.

Ling said there were 14 hotspots in Batu Pahat: Bagan, Chaah Baru, Kampung Bahru, Linau, Lubok, Minyak Beku, Peserai, Simpang Kanan, Simpang Kiri, Sri Gading, Sri Medan, Sungai Kluang, Sungai Punggor and Tanjung Semberong.

He said Kulai’s hotspots were Bukit Batu, Kulai, Senai and Sedenak; while those in Kluang were Kahang, Kluang, Layang-Layang, Macap, Nyior, Paloh, Rengam and Ulu Rengit.

Hotspots identified in Muar were Ayer Hitam, Bakri, Bandar, Bukit Kepong, Jorak, Lenga, Parit Jawa. Parit Bakar, Sungai Balang, Sri Menanti, Sungai Raya and Sungai Terap.
