AirAsia's Fernandes welcomes first grandchild

KLANG: AirAsia founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes has been promoted to the position of grandfather.

The 60-year-old corporate figure posted a photo of him proudly cradling his first grandchild on his social media accounts.

"Welcome to this world Olivia Rose," wrote Fernandes, who has three children.

He said the baby's mother and father were "doing great and going to be great parents".

"And I am a grandfather," added Fernandes.

There were many congratulatory messages with one saying:

"Congratulations on the promotion! You’ve officially been upgraded from 'Dad' to the much cooler, much more relaxed Grandpa. Prepare for maximum fun with zero discipline duties!"

One wellwisher quipped - "now Tony can be Grandpa", while another wrote that "promotion to grandfather looked good" on Fernandes.
