JOHOR BARU: Police arrested a man believed to be involved in a drug trafficking syndicate after the seizure of syabu worth more than RM1mil at Taman Mount Austin here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the arrest followed a raid conducted by police based on intelligence gathered. He said the 36-year-old suspect was detained at about 7.40pm on Saturday.

“The raid was carried out at a terrace house,” he told reporters at the state police headquarters here yesterday.

Comm Ab Rahaman said checks at the location found an MPV parked in front of the house.

“We found 21 packets of drugs believed to be syabu inside the vehicle,” he said.

He said the drugs weighed 20.2kg and were estimated to be worth RM1.01mil.

He said initial investigations revealed that the suspect’s task in the syndicate was to distribute the drugs locally.

“The house belongs to the suspect’s father, while the car is registered to another individual based in Sungai Petani.

“The original owner has arrears on the vehicle, and the suspect was keeping it here to avoid repossession by a financial institution,” he added.
