RM2.5mil allocated for new Kedah crematorium

THE Sri Subramaniya Swami Devasthanam Temple in Sungai Petani received a federal allocation of RM2.5mil for a new crematorium which is being built, Makkal Osai reported.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s special duties officer Shanmugam Mookan was reported to have confirmed this during a meeting with the temple committee.

The application for the funds was received last July with the funds disbursed in October to the temple committee’s account.

Construction is ongoing and expected to last a year. The crematorium is located on land owned by the temple.

The report stated that with this new facility, the Madani government has allocated funds for 10 crematoriums in eight states.

Former state exco member V. Arumugam, Devasthanam trustee Datuk Ramanujam, Malaysia Hindu Sangam Kedah chapter president S. Paramasivam and other local leaders were also present during the meeting.
